What is a subluxation?
Spinal subluxation is a term commonly used by Chiropractors to describe an abnormally functioning spinal joint that may have adverse effects on the health of the nervous system.A subluxation often involves:
| - |
Abnormal movement of a joint that can result in restricted, painful or unstable motion. |
| - |
Changes in the type or number of signals passing through a spinal nerve. |
| - |
Changes in muscle tension, strength and endurance. |
| - |
Changes to the local circulation due to altered joint movement or inflammation. |
| - |
Degenerative changes to surrounding connective tissue (tendons & ligaments) and bone. |
| - |
Long-term subluxation degeneration can occur without pain and the effects on spinal or nervous system health may therefore go unnoticed, or may be ignored. Degenerative changes and postural abnormalities of the spine can be seen clearly on plain film x-rays. |
Do I need to see a chiropractor?
Just as a heart attack is not the first sign of a heart problem, back or neck pain is not the first sign of a bigger problem.
Getting your spine checked will allow you to see whether or not you could benefit from chiropractic.
Prevention is always better. Have a check up and see if you case is a chiropractic case.
Your chiropractor will refer you to the appropriate professional if your problem is not a chiropractic one.
Does it hurt?
The chiropractic adjustment is gentle and adapted to each person according to their age and condition.
Some adjustments may cause a popping or cracking sound, which is simply caused by a gas released from the joint as spinal motion is restored.
Is it safe?
Chiropractic adjustments are extremely safe for individuals of all ages - from infants to 100 year olds. Our adjustments are safe because we only use natural and noninvasive methods of care. Research consistently shows that care from chiropractors is among the safest care available and is literally light years ahead of traditional medical care in terms of "safeness".

Can my child see a chiropractor?
The growing years are the most important years in the development of posture and even more importantly, the development of your nervous system.
Minor imbalances in the position or movement patterns of spinal bones may cause few obvious symptoms in children, yet these subluxations may have a significant impact on nerve function and therefore health ... both now and in the future.
Children with healthy spines are healthier children.
In the German medical journal Manuelle Medizin, the authors Gutmann and Fryman reported examining a random group of 1258 babies within 5 days after birth. Of this group, 211 suffered from vomiting, hyperactivity and sleeplessness. Manual examination revealed spinal abnormalities in 95% of the group. The authors state that spinal adjustments "...frequently resulted in immediate quieting, cessation of crying, muscular relaxation and sleepiness." The authors noted that spinal subluxations in the upper neck area causes "... many clinical features from central motor impairment to lowered resistance to infections - especially ear, nose and throat infections."
